Lake Shore Drive Realignment Master Plan

John MacManus, ASLA, a principal at Altamanu, Inc., grew up in Ireland where he studied architecture. He worked at the Chicago office of Skidmore Owings & Merrill before joining the Department of Research and Planning at the Chicago Park District. It was while working there for the late Ed Uhlir, FAIA, that John gained his fascination with public open space and in particular, the lakefront in Chicago. John is working on the feasibility study for North Lake Shore Drive which encompasses the area between Grand Avenue and Hollywood Avenue along North Lake Shore Drive.

From the Redefine the Drive web site: Since the NLSD Phase 1 kickoff in 2013, numerous meetings have been held with the public, existing conditions and transportation needs have been identified, and the Purpose and Need Statement has been drafted and approved. The Project Study Group, consisting of the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT), the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the Chicago Park District and the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) is now in the process of identifying, developing and evaluating alternatives.
