  1. Apply the 16 new competencies in self-evaluation of their work performance to ensure proper public protection.
  2. Lead others using the competencies as a framework by which to perform quality assurance of work collaborators to ensure health and safety factors requirements are achieved throughout a project.
  3. Explain how the newly defined competencies will be integrated into initial and continuing licensure requirements in the coming years to ensure all who hold a license to practice architecture remain qualified to protect the public.
  4. Analyze how new elements within the Competency Standard will advance expectations regarding practitioners’ abilities for delivering public welfare.

NCARB recently announced a new Competency Standard, providing updates to the competencies expected of all architects. This session will introduce professionals to the new competency model, explain the rationale behind the changes, provide learning about key evolutions in the competency expectation, and allow attendees to better evaluate their performance against the expected standard.

Jared Zurn served in the role of Vice President, Examination, since 2013, overseeing all aspects of the Architect Registration Examination (ARE) including the development, operations, security, and implementation of ARE 5.0. Promoted to Sr. Vice President in 2024, Jared collaborates across NCARB on the evolution of programs that support licensure and the ongoing development of licensure processes for the future.

 

National Council of Architectural Registration Boards The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) is a nonprofit organization made up of the architectural licensing boards of 55 U.S. states and territories. While each jurisdiction is responsible for regulating the practice of architecture within its borders, NCARB develops and administers national programs for candidates pursuing architectural licensure and helps architects expand their professional reach through the NCARB Certificate.
