STUCCO: Rainscreen, Codes and Standards
Learning Objectives:
- Identify the three major principles/methods of moisture management for exterior claddings.
- Assess the method of moisture management for the situation.
- Apply the moisture management principles and use them to be in code compliance.
- Compare the principles of moisture management and apply them to details using cement plaster.
Credits:
Covering the history of moisture issues related to stucco. This program will focus on moisture management of plaster over a variety of substrates. Architects, designers and the construction team will benefit knowing the evolution of plaster and water intrusion issues. The program will include an in-depth look at the new requirements of the 2021 building code and how they relate to the various Climates Zones around the country.

Mark Fowler was first licensed to contract to install lath and plaster back in 1982. He has since worked as an architect and for three trade associations, all related to building exteriors. Mark has authored countless technical papers and wrote two manuals related to exterior cement plaster. He has served as an expert witness for exterior plaster in several litigation cases and is an organizational member of ASTM and ACI committees for lath and plastering. He has the unique experience of field, design, forensic and code compliance work, all related to practices and standards for cement plastering. Mark is currently the Editorial Director for Walls and Ceilings magazine and the Executive Director for the Stucco Manufacturers Association. |
