Studio Contra is located in Lagos, Nigeria, and approaches its work designing contemporary architecture within the context of both Lagos and the broader West African cities. In this course, creative director Olayinka Dosekun-Adjei discusses two projects that show how the firm makes the connection between the area’s historical traditions rooted in the past, while being forward looking in its approach to architecture.
Olayinka Dosekun-Adjei is the Creative Director of the Lagos, Nigeria-based Studio Contra, a 2023 Design Vanguard firm. Prior to embarking on a career in architecture, Olayinka worked as a financial analyst in London. She holds a BA in Classics from the University of Oxford (New College) and an M.Arch from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, where she studied as a Kennedy Scholar and where she is currently a design critic. Before founding Studio Contra, she worked at leading architectural practices such as Barkow Leibinger in Berlin, Sheppard Robson in London, and MASS Design in Boston. She has experience in residential and commercial sectors as well as cultural and public spaces. The firm’s Institute of Contemporary African Art & Film in Ilorin, Nigeria is opening soon. |
