How does the confluence of digital technologies—machine learning, robotic automation, sensoring, big data—provide architects with both opportunities and risk? This talk will provide an overview of how designers and builders can adapt to these disruptions by shifting their processes and business models and re-examining the fundamentals of architects' value propositions to the built environment.
Phil Bernstein is an architect, technologist, and educator. He is an associate dean and Senior Lecturer at the Yale School of Architecture where he received both his B.A. and his M.Arch. He was formerly vice president at Autodesk, where he was responsible for setting the company’s future vision and strategy for technology as well as cultivating the firm's relationships with key industry leaders and associations. Prior to Autodesk, Bernstein was a principal with Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects. His most recent book is Architecture | Design | Data: Practice Competency in the Era of Computation. He is a senior fellow of the Design Futures Council and former chair of the AIA National Contract Documents Committee.
