Arup principal, Cousins, will talk about how automation and rapidly-advancing technologies are reshaping the design and construction industry, allowing engineers and architects to better harness the power of data, manage risk, and improve efficiency. She will also explore the implications of this transformation for the culture of AEC firms.
Fiona Cousins is an Arup Fellow and the firm’s automation leader, focusing on applying automation to improve outcomes for clients and projects through greater consistency, rapid iteration, and visualization techniques. She also leads digital services for the Americas region, combining Arup’s deep knowledge of the built environment with new technologies to delight users and improve clients’ businesses. Since joining Arup as a graduate, Cousins’ technical focus has been on energy modeling, mechanical engineering design, and sustainable consulting, and she has led complex interdisciplinary building projects, including The Bloomberg Center at Cornell Tech and the Frick Chemistry Laboratory at Princeton University. Cousins is a LEED Fellow and served as chair for both the Urban Green Council and the U.S. Green Building Council. She currently serves on the boards of the Architectural League of New York, the Beverly Willis Architectural Foundation, and the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers, as well as being a member of the external advisory board of Harvard’s Master in Design Engineering program. |
