Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify how implementing a design-focused BIM process can improve productivity and coordination on projects, as well as elevate creativity.
  2. Discuss how an integrated 3D design workflow allows teams to contribute ideas to a shared model without having to switch to different software for visualization, presentation, or documentation.
  3. Identify rapid concepting strategies that can engage architecture, engineering, and construction partners earlier in the design process, allowing contractors to explore the 3D model in real time to discuss ideas and identify efficiencies.
  4. List the steps to improve client engagement with tools such as BIMx, virtual reality, and real-time visualization.

This course is part of the Business and Technology of Architecture Academy

BIM software creates a virtual model of a building, incorporating detailed information about its physical and functional characteristics. It encompasses a 3D geometric representation of the structure, as well as information about materials, systems, and components. BIM software enables the integration of various disciplines, including architecture, structural engineering, mechanical systems, electrical systems, and more. Changes made to the model automatically update all related elements, ensuring consistency and accuracy throughout the design process.

This presentation will explore the many benefits of integrating a design-focused BIM process into the architecture firm and discuss how utilizing this innovative technology can improve communication, workflow, and accurate updates to designs amongst the entire design and construction team.
