Solar energy is now cost competitive and rooftop energy generation is becoming more mainstream. As owners shift towards a net-zero approach to portfolio management, rooftop real estate is primed for solar panels. This presentation is geared towards owners considering the benefits of solar arrays and the designers guiding owners through this process. Understanding the long-term trends that make rooftop solar a compelling choice is the first step. Considerations to maximize output will be discussed, and approaches to various solar installations will be evaluated to assist with the design process. Options for financing solar installations will be reviewed to assist with the feasibility of adding rooftop solar into the project budget.

Jennifer Keegan is the Director of Building & Roofing Science for GAF, focusing on overall roof system design and performance. Jennifer has over 20 years of experience as a building enclosure consultant specializing in assessment, design and remediation of building enclosure systems. Jennifer provides technical leadership within the industry as the Chair of the ASTM D08.22 Roofing and Waterproofing Subcommittee; and as an advocate for women within the industry as the educational chair for National Women in Roofing and a board member of Women in Construction.

taylor

Thomas J. Taylor is the Building & Roofing Science Advisor for GAF. This position is focused on the technical attributes and analysis of the various elements within a commercial roof assembly. He is experienced at evaluating the relationships between individual roofing materials and the overall roof system and building envelope performance. Tom was previously the Executive Director, Building & Roofing Science. He is a frequent presenter at both national and regional industry meetings. He has over 20 years’ experience in the building products industry, all working for manufacturing organizations in a variety of new product development roles. He received his PhD in chemistry and holds approximately 35 patents.
