Finish & Surface Considerations of Anodized Aluminum & Natural Metals in Today's Architecture

Sponsored by ALPOLIC® Metal Composite Materials

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe the types of anodic finishes available for architectural aluminum.
  2. Use the Aluminum Associations designation system to define the type of anodic finish.
  3. Describe the types of natural metal finishes available for composite building panels, including zinc, stainless steel, titanium and copper.
  4. Explain the concerns related to natural metal skins and galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals and how to address them.
  5. Properly select a natural metal finish and know how to design a wall assembly to ensure proper performance and to prevent galvanic corrosion.

Metal composite materials (MCM) use a variety of finish types that affect their look and performance. This course examines the different types of anodic finishes for architectural aluminum and how to use the Aluminum Association's designation system. Natural metal skins for copper, zinc, stainless steel, and titanium will also be covered.
