A roof is more than the surface that keeps the water out of buildings. Roof systems do much more than that. Roof systems are a complex part of the building enclosure with many functions and components. Holding them all together and enabling key roof system performance attributes are adhesives. This presentation will discuss adhesive uses in single-ply roof systems, including distinguishing between adhesive types and different applications of adhesives in roof systems. We will also explore when specifying adhesives in roof systems can contribute to meeting project design goals, or when they are part of the contractor’s means and methods. When exploring the key performance contributions of adhesives in single-ply roof systems, we will look at the impacts on energy efficiency, wind design, resilience, and project schedule/budget constraints. To provide context, we’ll review several project examples to demonstrate the impact of specifying adhesives as part of the single-ply roof system.
The Building and Roofing Science team offers regional expert building enclosure collaboration through design, specification, and educational support for customers of GAF and Siplast, both Standard Industries companies. GAF is North America’s largest roofing manufacturer with more homes and businesses in the U.S. protected by a GAF roof than any other product. Siplast, a leader in building enclosure systems, offers a portfolio of advanced, high-performance SBS-modified bitumen, PMMA liquid-applied, PVC KEE, lightweight insulating concrete, wall air & water barrier systems, and amenity/vegetated systems.
Understand adhesive uses and types in single-ply roof systems. Determine when adhesives contribute to the design professional’s or the contractor’s scope. Identify when the performance of roof systems can be enhanced by adhesive applications for energy efficiency, wind design, and resilience. Apply practical examples of roof systems utilizing adhesives to achieve the project design goals.
