Mass Timber's Sprawling Footprint: Staying Current With the State of the Art

A concise look at evolving mass timber strategies, with real-world insights on design, delivery and sustainability

Sponsored by Think Wood | Presented by Cameron K. Jacobson, AIA, CDT and Dave Beck

Live Webinar Airing on May 13, 2026 at 02:00 PM ET

As the use of mass timber proliferates across the country due to its environmental, aesthetic, and speed-of-construction benefits, firms can remain competitive by understanding the material and how to use it. This webinar will provide the latest lessons learned and key insights from building industry leaders experienced in these increasingly innovative sustainable projects—both recently completed and still under construction.

The case studies presented in this webinar represent mass timber applications across diverse typologies, including residential and commercial, and at different scales. In this webinar, participants will gain valuable knowledge that can be applied to current or future mass timber projects of their own, like how innovative design and construction strategies have been implemented to meet sustainability goals and successfully deliver projects. These leaders will share their best practices and strategies for delivering projects that not only meet but exceed industry standards, with a focus on lowering embodied carbon, navigating local building codes, and implementing adaptive techniques that can be applied to all project types.

Speaker

Cameron K. Jacobson, AIA, CDT, Project Architect at DLR Group, approaches design from the inside out, examining how materials, structure, and construction methods shape both performance and user experience. His work reflects a growing emphasis on mass timber and forward-thinking approaches to construction.

With more than one million square feet of mass timber projects completed, under construction, or in design, Cameron brings a practitioner’s perspective on scale and constructability. He understands the demands of accelerated project delivery and focuses on how emerging systems move from concept to repeatable solutions in dense urban environments.

His experience spans multifamily, mixed-use, and hospitality developments, including high-rise and adaptive reuse projects, where he leads teams to align early and translate complex ideas into clear, achievable outcomes.

Speaker

Dave Beck, Co-Founder and Executive VP, XL Construction, inspires the highest levels of project execution, client satisfaction, and sustainability. His rules: put the client first, listen and find the best (not easiest) solutions, and do the work with the highest standards of quality and integrity. He brings his enthusiasm for excellence to every job and ensures that our project teams have the resources they need to deliver to the most exacting standards, having a great time in the process. Dave has presented at the International Mass Timber and Advancing Mass Timber Conferences, has been published in Building Design + Construction, is an educator for The Wood Institute, and is a member of the USGBC and Living Future Institute. Dave received a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. He is a LEED Accredited Professional (BD+C).
