What are the challenges when Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Management Systems (EPMS) are specified independently? BMS and EPMS are traditionally engineered and operated separately, despite tightly coupled physical infrastructure. This fragmentation creates operational blind spots: energy inefficiencies go undetected, fault response is slower without cross-domain visibility, and root cause analysis is difficult when either system is used alone. A unified platform treats building and power operations as one coordinated system rather than two adjacent ones.
This webinar examines the core design considerations for such integration. At the data layer: a common information model reconciling protocols like BACnet, Modbus, and IEC 61850. At the architecture layer: edge-versus-cloud options, protection-critical EPMS functions, and redundancy design preventing the platform from becoming a single point of failure for power reliability and HVAC control. At the application layer: shared analytics, unified alarm management, and cross-domain role-based access. We also show how this platform supports compliance with energy codes such as ASHRAE 90.1 and IECC.
