What LEED v5 BD+C Means for Enclosures

New Energy Efficiency Provisions, Their Cost Impacts, and Building Enclosure Commissioning Requirements

Sponsored by OX Engineered Products | Presented by Daniel Overbey

Live Webinar Airing on December 10, 2026 at 02:00 PM ET

LEED v5 BD+C introduces significant changes to the rating systems' credit structure, its energy performance requirements, and building enclosure requirements (BECs) that will affect project designs and budgets. This webinar offers a brief orientation to what is new in LEED v5 BD+C, then focuses on two areas with direct cost and scheduling implications: the shift from ASHRAE 90.1-2010 (LEED v4's reference standard) to ASHRAE 90.1-2019 (LEED v5's reference standard), and what that more stringent standard could mean for initial project budgets and lifecycle costs compared to LEED v4.

The session then turns to Building Enclosure Commissioning (BECx), covering the prerequisite scope and the credit pathway for teams pursuing additional points. Attendees will leave with a practical understanding of how these changes affect project budgeting, team coordination, and enclosure quality assurance on their next LEED v5 BD+C project.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
  1. Identify the key structural and credit-category changes introduced in LEED v5 BD+C relative to LEED v4.
  2. Compare the energy performance baselines established by ASHRAE 90.1-2010 (referenced in LEED v4) and ASHRAE 90.1-2019 (referenced in LEED v5) and describe the potential initial and life-cycle cost implications for building projects.
  3. Outline the building enclosure commissioning (BECx) requirements under LEED v5 BD+C.
  4. Explain the minimum scope of BECx-related testing, documentation, and verification activities mandated for project certification.
