When Roofing Meets Lightning Protection: Coordinating Rooftop Systems for Long-Term Performance  

Today's rooftops are more complex than ever, requiring collaboration among architects, engineers, roofing professionals, and specialty contractors. Whether designing a new facility, replacing a roof, or adding rooftop equipment, decisions made by one trade can affect the performance of another. This session explores how lightning protection systems integrate with the building enclosure throughout new construction, roof replacement, and future rooftop modifications. Through real-world examples and project scenarios, participants will learn how to understand lightning risks, understand the system, identify key coordination points, and preserve long-term performance through inspection and maintenance.

Kelley Collins brings more than 25 years of technical and strategic experience in the science and technology industries. She serves as Director of Business Development and Communications for the Lightning Protection Institute and is Co-owner and President of Lightning Protection University. In these roles, she advances technical education, strengthens industry partnerships, and expands awareness of lightning protection systems in support of resilient infrastructure. As founder of EiP Strategy and Communications, she helps organizations translate complex concepts into actionable strategies that drive results. Kelley is a graduate of the University of Georgia and holds a Master’s degree in Business Management and Organizational Behavior.
