Reducing Occupant Energy Costs

Tile Roofing Delivers Performance, Durability, and a Solar-Ready Home

Sponsored by Eagle Roofing Products | Presented by Tyler Alwood and David Vallas

Live Webinar Airing on June 25, 2026 at 02:00 PM ET

This presentation examines the role of concrete tile roof systems as a high performing component of the building enclosure, with a specific focus on energy performance and solar compatibility. While roofing discussions often center on aesthetics or installation, this session shifts the focus to how roof system design influences heat transfer, peak energy demand, and long-term operational costs. Using data from industry and national laboratory studies, including temperature and energy use comparisons between tile and shingle roof systems, the presentation will explore how ventilation, air space, material density, and thermal behavior affect building performance.

Attendees will gain a clearer understanding of how tile roofing systems interact with solar installations, support energy code requirements, and contribute to durability, occupant comfort, and reduced energy demand across residential, multifamily, and institutional projects.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
  1. Describe how concrete tile roof systems influence heat transfer, attic temperatures, and overall building energy performance.
  2. Explain how ventilated tile roof assemblies, including air space and airflow strategies, contribute to reduced peak energy demand.
  3. Discuss how concrete tile roof systems serve as an ideal material when considering compatibility with rooftop solar systems.
  4. Compare roof system thermal performance curves and understand how timing and magnitude of heat gain impact energy costs and grid demand.
