All Credits: Designing the Next-Generation Facade for Human Performance

Studies suggest that the building façade system can play a major role in enhancing employee health and well-being. This seminar will introduce participants to the human and environmental benefits of dynamic facades. Presenters, including keynote Vivian Loftness, FAIA, University Professor and Paul Mellon Chair in Architecture, Carnegie Mellon University, and Phillip Anzalone, AIA, Professor of Architectural Technology, New York City College of Technology – CUNY, will discuss the importance of creating facades that ensure daylight without glare, natural ventilation in collaboration with mechanical systems, shading without the loss of biophilic views, facades that load balance from core to perimeter and day to night, and facades that integrate HVAC and renewable energies. Featured will be case studies from around the world, including the submissions of finalists named in the Metals in Construction magazine 2018 Design Challenge. It will conclude with the naming of the Challenge's $15,000 grand prize winner.
