This Learning Center explores how the IAPMO Water Demand Calculator and updated Hunter’s Curve empower plumbing designers to create right-sized systems for modern multifamily residential buildings. Courses in this collection address the intersection of housing affordability, water conservation, and public health by applying contemporary pipe-sizing methods that reflect today’s lower fixture flow rates and usage patterns. Participants will learn how to reduce oversizing, lower installation and operational costs, and improve overall system performance. Topics include minimizing water age to help prevent waterborne pathogens, delivering hot water more quickly, enhancing the efficiency of WaterSense-labeled fixtures, and cutting structural water waste. Real-world strategies and scalable design approaches highlight how smarter plumbing systems can improve occupant health, reduce environmental impact, and support long-term housing sustainability.
