Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe how channel glass systems can be used to transfer natural light deep into buildings to enhance well-being and productivity of building occupants.
  2. Explain three ways designers can enhance building occupant comfort by incorporating insulating materials in channel glass assemblies.
  3. List three steel curtain wall framing system configurations that allow for improved daylighting, energy savings, and building occupant well-being.
  4. Identify which LEED credits can potentially be earned with either channel glass or steel curtain wall systems.

This course takes a look at channel glass and steel curtain wall glazing systems and their roles in design. It explores unique applications for channel glass as well as innovations in steel framing systems. Aluminum vs. steel framing systems are compared, and in-depth case studies show examples of how architects are using these systems to achieve design goals.
