Firms need to be intelligently designed to weather recessions and thrive even after their founders retire. In addition to implementing a sound business structure, firms must be nimble, ready to embrace whatever challenges arise while also striving to reduce the impact of the built environment on ecosystems and climate. BIM is one of the best tools firms can employ to both win contracts and design buildings that are as sustainable as possible. This webinar will describe how architectural practices of all sizes can structure their businesses and design sensibilities to survive recessions and prosper, with an emphasis on BIM can help firms achieve their goals.

Patrick MacLeamy, FAIA and Huw Roberts, CEO of GRAPHISOFT® will be discussing how architectural practices of all sizes can structure their businesses and design sensibilities to survive recessions and prosper. Firms need to be intelligently designed to weather recessions and thrive after their founders retire. In addition to implementing a sound business structure, firms need to embrace BIM as the best tool for winning jobs and designing buildings that are as green as possible using current technology.

The presentations will be followed by a moderated discussion focused on how BIM can help firms elevate their design proficiency.

Patty

Patrick MacLeamy, FAIA, International Chairman, buildingSMART International; CEO Emeritus, HOK. During Patrick’s 50 years at HOK, the firm assumed an industry leadership role in sustainability, publishing the first edition of its Guidebook to Sustainable Practices in the 1990s. His recently released book, Designing a World-Class Architecture Firm, touches on this and also provides recession-proofing strategies for firms, based on the challenges and decision that allowed HOK to survive several challenges during the past 66 years. Currently, Patrick leads London-based buildingSMART International, an organization he helped found in 1994. Its mission is to globally decrease the 40% of the carbon footprint and 40% of landfill content currently generated by building construction and operations. The organization’s approach is to expand open-BIM among architects, builders and product manufacturers to improve green design and make construction and operations more efficient.
