As buildings, roads, and parking lots replace open land and vegetation in and around cities, the resultant urban areas become significantly warmer, forming a “heat island” within the landscape. This webinar will discuss how urban heat islands pose a significant problem that may jeopardize the economy, the environment, public safety, and human health. The webinar also will review current approaches to address the consequences of heat islands, with an emphasis how reflective roofs offer the most feasible and cost-effective strategy. Finally, the webinar review important characteristics of reflective roofs to help the building designer optimize roof system design and selection in urban areas.
