This webinar is part of the Acoustics Academy

This webinar will focus on noise-control strategies and will also provide a brief review of the fundamental properties of sound and define acoustical terms and concepts. Presenters will then review several projects to highlight the acoustical challenges and solutions implemented to increase acoustic comfort in buildings.

Sean Browne, principal scientist, is a member of the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) and the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and will provide a basis for understanding by reviewing the fundamental properties of sound, as well as related terms and concepts.

David Cordell, associate principal and sustainability leader with Perkins+Will, will present the strategies used to design the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) new 8,500-square-foot headquarters in Washington, D.C. The project is the first in the world to achieve both LEED and WELL platinum-level certifications..

Bill Smith, project manager for the 20,000-square-foot addition to the One Campus Martius Building in Detroit, will discuss how designers implemented several systems to create and ensure acoustic excellence for any of the space’s various intended uses.
